In Our Absence

 The Taliban Takeover of America

My kids have urged me to avoid the foreign news, particularly what is occuring in the United States in our absence. And I promised one very decent friend to avoid politics in this blog. But what is happening is so awful, it deserves passing mention.

In my mind, it is nothing short of a Republican jihadi takeover of the Republic. The Grand Old Party, the party of Lincoln, is now a cult celebrating one "man." All it took was one felonious, unelected president; two perverts and one Catholic cult member on the US Supreme Court; and a minority party intent on trashing the US Constitution and perpetuating the Big Lie--at the expense of the majority of Americans.

Here in Greece. the birthplace of democracy, we observe from afar the steady development of a kleptocratic autocracy back home. It is disheartening to say the least: An end to gender equality; an end to civil rights; and an end to environmental stewardship and protection.

How did this happen? It becomes clearer to me with every passing day: treachery and treason (Trump), duplicity (McConnell), and the abandonment of America's founding principles (the Republican Party).

On a Happier Note...

Our family enjoys their special opportunity for summer in rural Greece. We have traveled to Pylos (the new and old castle), the historic Voidokoilia bay, the waterfalls of Paliolimino, and taken several hikes in the heat of the heat. And the heat is hot.

Here are a collection of images of our travels together.
